Fangxun (Billy) Zhong

I am an assistant professor of School of Science Engineering, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHKSZ), and will be leading the Intelligent Motion And Interaction Laboratory (IMAIL). I was a postdoctoral fellow with CUHK T Stone Robotics Institute (CURI) and Hong Kong Centre for Logistics Robotics (HKCLR). Before that, I obtained my Ph.D. degree from Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), in 2021. My Ph.D. and postdoctoral supervisor is Prof. Yun-Hui Liu. I obtained my B.Eng. degree from Department of Automation, Beijing Institute of Technology, in 2014. I am currently also the (joint) assistant director of CUHK Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Research Institute (Futian), and a member of IEEE and IEEE RAS.
My research interest includes robot autonomy in surgical applications, medical robotics, intelligent motion planning and control, learning-driven 3D perception, etc.

Sep 02, 2024 | I am teaching ECE3060 Introduction to Robotics in AY24-25 Term 1 at CUHK(SZ). This is a newly proposed course in School of Science Engineering, also the first fundamental robotics course targeting undergrad students as a major elective. |
